What is Hurricane Protection Plan Insurance?

Business insurance is vital for businesses in hurricane-prone areas. A Hurricane Protection Plan is a type of business insurance that helps to financially protect businesses in the event that their property is damaged or destroyed by a named hurricane. The plan typically covers the cost of repairs, replacement, and cleanup after a storm. It can also help to cover lost income if the business is forced to close for an extended period of time.

The Hurricane Protection Plan can be purchased for a commercial property and or a residential home or property.

What is the difference between Commercial and Personal/Residential Plans?

Commercial:

A Commercial Hurricane Protection Plan provides coverage against named hurricanes for commercial properties. The plan has limits available from $1,000 to $100,000. The Commercial Hurricane Protection Plan covers expenses incurred for: hurricane preparation, evacuation, sign damage, landscaping, power surge, power outages, business property damage, vandalism, debris removal, food spoilage, tree damage, detached structures, generator and fuel expenses, in addition to all other hurricane related expenses, including interruptions of business, loss of income, business relocation, power restoration, employee and contractors costs, etc. Unlike a typical insurance policy, there are no deductibles, underwriting process and or claims process. If the business carries windstorm coverage as part of its Commercial Property policy, then they may purchase Hurricane Protection equal or up to their windstorm deductible amount. If the business does not carry this type of insurance, then they may purchase Hurricane Protection Plan up to a limit of $100,000.

Personal/Residential:

A Residential Hurricane Protection Plan, provides coverage against named hurricanes for homeowners, mobile homes, renters, condo owners, vacant, seasonal and corporately owned dwellings. This type of Hurricane Protection Plan pays for losses not normally covered by a homeowners policy such as; trees and debris removal, swimming pool damage, boat docks, detached property, evacuation expenses, power restoration, losses below the deductible, and all other hurricane related expenses. Coverage may be purchased by individuals with an existing homeowner’s policy or by those uninsured. This is a policy for those who live in areas that experience frequent hurricanes. Similarly to the Commercial plan, if the property’s insurance policy covers wind - the deductible amount is the maximum allowed for purchase. If the property is uninsured, then the insured may purchase up to the maximum limit of $100,000.
